"MAE Professor Jan Kleissl was named a fellow by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). Kleissl has been very active within ASES in the solar resources area, participated in many conferences, and chaired the 2017 ASES National Conference. Kleissl also promoted ASES' mission of 100% renewable energy by ground-breaking research in forecasting solar energy production, characterizing solar power variability, and developing technological solutions for solar power integration into the electric distribution system.
Nick Boechler and Sheng Cai receive MURI award for Triggering Outstanding Properties via Mechanical Adaptive Topologies (TOPMAT): Towards Dynamically Self-Amplifying Omniphoric Multiscale Metamaterials
Nick Gravish and Mike Tolley receive an ONR grant for, "SanD-Worm: a soft bodied Swimming & Digging robot". The grant is for three years to develop a soft-bodied robot for ocean floor inspection and burrowing.
Xanthippi Markenscoff & Yuri Fialko, of SIO, are co-organizing an NSF sponsored Symposium on the Application of Mechanics to Geophysics next week, on June 25-26, 2019 in the von Karman-Penner Seminar Room, EBUII room 479.
